Борис: Впервые прослушал эту группу (3 песни). Удивительно, но если к этой музыке приставить голос Джеффа, то не вызвало бы сомнение его авторство - столь близко передана сущность и стилистика музыки. Ничего, что музыка вторична, главное - она впитала лучшие традиции жанра поп-рока.

Voldar: В эту тему конечно уже бы вошли и LEO и Pugwash,но мне попались сразу два материала о исполнителях которых мы раньше не слушали.В теме о новостях я выкладывал материал о Goldfrapp,дует при написание нового альбома по собственным словам вдохновлялся ЭЛО и АВВА.Диск совсем свежий,кстати почти со всех обменников его почистили. He's won Latin Grammy's and recently held a concert on Buenos Aires for aprox 200,000 people. During the 80s and 90s was the leader of the Soda Stereo Band and in 2006 recorded (unreleased) material with Roger Waters. In any case, when he went solo, I started noticing his heavy resemblance to Jeff Lynne on stage (same sunglasses, frilly hair, etc) and in a concert he opened saying "I am Jeff Lynne and this is the Electric Light Orchestra". His music has a very ELO sound to it. He launched a record recently "Fuerza Natural" (went platinum) which includes the song "Magia" which has a very nice intro of the ELO song Mama. Its nice to see that heavy weights like Cerati love Jeff Lynne (and constantly mentions him as one of his heroes) all the time.

Elaine: нуу... He Visto A Lucy сильно напоминает Goodbye Innocence, и вообще все песни похожи и во всех есть стандартные фишки elo. Прямо даже слишком их много. Но магии нет. Не знаю, что я под этим подразумеваю, но между, допустим, LEO и Густаво я отдаю голос LEO. В целом понравилось, cactus, sal понравились. Надо ранние альбомы поискать...

Шубидуба: Кстати, я тут, по случаю увлечения Pugwash и Duckworth Lewis Method, скачал все альбомы Divine Comedy. Штук 10 примерно оказалось. Половину, где-то, уже послушал. Очень интересная группа оказалась. Особенно понравился альбом 2001 года Regeneration. Т.е. очень-очень понравился. Очень мелодичный такой. Короче, наша музыка! Рекомендую.

Tell us about your new album, and your Kickstarter campaign. I think FOUR is a natural progression for me. It’s still very eclectic (as I believe all of my solo releases have been) and a lot of the lush arrangements and soul undertones from A Watched Pot have carried over. But this record deals a bit more with some deeper themes of mortality, regret, loss, and redemption. As far as Kickstarter goes, Iloved the idea of reaching out to the fans to try and do something more with this record, but i was initially very nervous about the campaign itself. It was my manager’s suggestion (our first time trying anything like this), and I was genuinely concerned that we might have trouble raising our $8,000 goal in the 45 days we set to reach that. As you may or may not know, if a Kickstarter project doesn’t reach it’s goal in the number of days the participant allots, the campaign is considered unsuccessful and no one pays (or receives) any money (which could be embarrassing obviously)….I was completely blown away when we raised $10,000 in the first 12 hours, and $20,000 in the first 24 hours. The response was overwhelming, and we ended up raising $40,000. I still can’t believe it. It’s honestly changed my entire outlook on my career as an artist. I’m so thankful to have such supportive fans. What’s a song on your new album you really want people to hear, and why? I want people to hear all of them! Seriously though, i feel pretty good about the record as a whole, and I still believe in the validity of the record as an art form (old fashioned, I know). It’s not a concept album or anything, but I do think it can take you on a little journey. If you don’t like cursing, i would skip track 6 though… Tell us about a few of your favorite collaborations. One of my favorite collaborators is definitely Mike Viola (That Thing You Do/Walk Hard/Get Him To The Greek). We have a band together called The Major Labels with our friend Ducky Carlisle…Mike’s one of those people who makes you feel like you’re a better writer when you’re with him..the creativity is always flowing with the spigot fully open, and the brain is storming (the castle!). Of course I always enjoy working with great voices..Jon McLaughlin, Chris Mann, Megan Joy, Zac Hanson, Megan Kabir, to name just a few (I’ve been lucky to have worked with so many).They’re all great writers, but hearing someone belt out that spine-tingling vocal as you’re working on a song can be so inspiring. And O have to mention my long-time collaborator John Fields… he comes at his writing from a production angle, but his ability to get an incredible track going in seconds-flat, and really envision the final recording as a whole has always led to great material, and pushed me in new directions. What was it like working with Joe Jonas on his solo album? This may be a bit premature, as i don’t know quite when or what will be released, but, I genuinely enjoyed working with Joe. He’s very open, and so positive about the collaborative process. He’s got a great voice, and i think his instinct for hooks is fantastic. The songs I worked on with him were a bit of a departure for me (and him as well i think) and i think it was exciting for both of us to be moving into new territory. How are you able to collaborate with artists across such a wide spectrum of genres? Does it take a special kind of writer or ear to pull that off? I’ve always had extremely eclectic tastes, and I’m always looking for something new to inspire me. So, for me it feels pretty natural. It can be difficult to be “authentic” to many different styles, but I endeavor to keep good hooks at the core of it, and when I’m entering into somewhat unknown territory, i defer to the locals, so to speak. What inspires you to write a song? Everything. emotions, personal experiences, books, TV, movies, news, everyday conversations, deep thoughts, other music, collaborators, beats, instruments, the need to communicate with fellow humans, food, art, the sound of the windshield wipers..and the list goes on and on. Tell us about the “Birthday Songs” you’ve done. It started as a cheap (but personal) way to pull together gifts for friends and family. They’re a total blast to make because there’s no pressure to do anything but please the recipient (who is predisposed to enjoying it anyway!) These songs are, in a way, written for an audience of one, which is a pretty unique situation. If other people get a kick out of it, it’s all gravy, as they say. Imagine you get to write with any songwriter in the world, living or dead, but you can only choose one. Who would it be? Ifeel like I’ve already gotten to write with possibly my favorite writer of all time (Mike Viola) But, i think I’d have to say, either Jeff Lynne or Mutt Lange (both alive! Bonus!) I’m semi-obsessed with both those gentlemen (I have side projects dedicated to both – L.E.O. and LoudLion). Obviously, they’re both iconic producers as well, so, in my fantasy, we’d be co-writing a Bleu song, and then they’d be producing it. Goldenday: Тут ребята на соседнем форуме раскопали альбом Robin Zander из Cheap Trick. Я скачал ради интереса и послушал его. В духе Линна там 2 песни: "Tell In To The World" и "I Always Got You"(по аранжировке сильно напоминает альбом Петти "Into The Great Wide Open", что не удивительно, поскольку там сопродюсер Майк Кэмпбелл, да ещё на гитарах играет.) Остальные песни альбома - совсем другая музыка.

Goldenday: Немножко манерничали при исполнении, но что с женщин взять... а вообще с душой исполнили. И сцена очень красивая. Одним словом, молодцы.

Voldar: Мне нечего добавить к Димкиному диагнозу,ну буквально ни одного слова.
Goldenday: А мне есть что При внимательном прочтении буклета, увидел, что именно на этих обеих песнях, о которых идёт речь, Майк Кэмпбелл числится соавтором, сопродюсером, причём первым номером, и играет на басу, соло-гитаре и клавишных. Называется, приехали. Выходит, что эти песни - заслуга не Зандера, а в первую очередь Кэмпбелла. Учитывая, что Майк перед этим работал с Линном на альбомах Петти "Fool Moon Fever" и "Into The Great Wide Open", на альбоме Шеннона "Rock On" и на альбоме Джулианны Рэй, можно сказать, что Майк отлично усвоил приёмы Джеффа. Зандеру повезло.

Voldar: Sweet Lights YShai Halperin has, in the past, expressed a curiously devout regard for ELO. And it's true that on the string of terrific albums he has released as leader of The Capitol Years, there are indeed certain shades of Jeff Lynne and co, but admitting such a debt to that most divisive of bands is to limit and somewhat belittle the superbly inventive mixture of wider influences that is all Halperin's own. Now recording as Sweet Lights, his sophisticated and gorgeous songwriting has hit new heights. This is an outstanding record, and one that beautifully showcases the two sides of Halperin: the ability to craft an economical and immediate pop hook, as well as his love of heavy instrumental layers, interweaving parts and rangy, opus-like songs. Though not on this album, the mesmerising 'You Let Me Down', a single released last year, gave a hint of what sort of thing was on Halperin's mind. About three songs in one and six and a half minutes long, it suggested his artistic peak was near and that more ambitious arrangements were within his grasp after four albums of The Capitol Years' more straightforward and heavily Beatles-inspired AOR. As lovely as those records were, this one – and we can include 'You Let Me Down' as part of the same wider project – is on another plane, so wide-ranging in its scope that it is somewhat difficult to rein in with the shackles of description. Some elements of ELO certainly remain, such as on the bouncy and relatively unchallenging 'Are We Gonna Work It Out'. However, a more accurate comparison for the album's profounder moments would be George Harrison, in that it marries instant accessibility with an idiosyncratic kind of existential insight on the superb 'Waterfall', with its strings, harpsichord, synthesiser and Halperin's instantly recognisable harmonies. These are all qualities, fans of sophisticated and sincere songwriting will be aware, that made up John Grant's 2010 album Queen of Denmark as well as his previous band, The Czars – even if Halperin is a bit less grimly emotional than that. The lyrical wit and imagery also bears out that comparison, while anyone disappointed by Rufus Wainwright's latest might find what they were seeking from that arch duke of complicated pop, in Halperin. One final reference point is that, in its up-tempo but unthreatening softness, Wilco's post-A Ghost Is Born work is recalled. So there are touchstones aplenty (one track, 'The Ballad of Kurt Vile #2', hints at his complex and affectionate relationship with that particular peer), but there are many things about Sweet Lights that could only come from Halperin. One is the undemonstrative drawl with which he delivers his songs. Another is words that comically and pleasantly hint at such first-world problems as urban alienation and disorientation of self, while the 30-second snippet 'Tell Us All About It' demonstrates his peculiarly subtle way of dealing with current affairs. The whole Halperin package comes together to absorbing effect on opener 'Message On The Wire', which is just about his best ever song. Less than three minutes in length, tight, immaculately produced and immensely satisfying melodically, this is a blissful introduction to Halperin's current sensibilities. Meanwhile, the closest he comes to the sprawling chapters of 'You Let Me Down' is on climactic closer 'Here Comes The Son'. Voldar: Swedish punk band the Hives to lay down the law The half-decade gap between the fourth full-length platter from the Hives, 2007's "The Black and White Album," and the fifth, this year's "Lex Hives," is a bit long for a punk-rock band. (Just for contrast, consider that the Ramones pushed out their first five studio albums between 1976 and 1980.) The Hives, who play www.summerfest.com">Summerfest on Friday, admittedly burned at least a couple years of the gap touring the wheels off "Black and White," but, as lead singer Howlin' Pelle Almqvist pointed out, every new album they make is another high-wire challenge. "We spent a lot of time trying to advance ourselves, reinvent the wheel and attack in a different way," Almqvist said during a recent phone interview. "It's hard for us to make just another album in a line. It needs to feel like the first and last thing we'd ever do." Truthfully, "Lex Hives" isn't that apocalyptic, but if Almqvist and his fellow Swedes - Nicholaus Arson, Chris Dangerous, Dr. Matt Destruction and Vigilante Carlstroem - were spontaneously to combust tomorrow, they'd leave behind a crisp summary of their power. "We were trying to make it sound clear," Almqvist said. "We were really into the way we play with each other, and we really wanted that to be heard. It was very hi-fi recording of some really crappy instruments." The hi-fi recording carries across the entire album, from the quick, introductory goading of "Come On!," which periodically adds the word everybody to the intensely repeated title refrain, to the sneering teddy-boy swagger of the finale, "Midnight Shifter." Perhaps the hi-fi quality also made the Hives realize that they'd been inadvertently sticky-fingered with at least one song, "Go Right Ahead," the album's first single. Classic-rock fans who hear it should almost instantly recognize the basic riff from a 1979 Electric Light Orchestra hit. "We recorded it before we realized it was 'Don't Bring Me Down,' " Almqvist said. "It took a month for us to realize that. We had to man up and call Jeff (Lynne, ELO bandleader and songwriter) about it and ask him if we could credit him. And he said yes." That common-sense attitude extended to the band's formation of a label, Discques Hives, to release this Hives disc. The band's association with a major record company ended with "Black and White," providing an opportunity to reassert a punk-based do-it-yourself ethos. "There was no reason to involve anyone else before we were done writing and recording it," Almqvist said. "We had enough money that we could do it, and we really wanted for the five of us to do everything. It was fun to do again." The Hives essentially spray-painted their signature cockiness across the album credits with such listings as "by for with and because of" and "very special thanks to" themselves. They value style for its own sake, as evident from their natty, always-matching attire (in this case, tuxedos and top hats on the album cover), and they believe that what you see is what you get. "If you like records a lot, you can see from the cover if you'll like this," Almqvist said. "Science is not there yet, but you can see if something sounds good. Goldenday: Old Future Crash 'Outside Time' наконец-то добрался и до наших просторов. Диск через приятеля заказывал с испанского сайта, обошёлся 2т., шел в Россию больше двух месяцев (оно и понятно: Испания ведь оооочень далеко). Альбом очень даже ничего, причем с каждым разом слушается лишь лучше. Толстый 22-страничный буклет на глянцевой бумаге. Вообще сделано всё на совесть. Видно, что старались. По аранжировкам в лучших традициях Time, OOTB, Xanadu & Discovery. Очень признателен taxup за наводку на альбом! P.S. Прямо в сеть выкладывать не буду, дабы не портить пока сборы музыкантам (позже и так кто-нибудь сольёт). Все желающие послушать сейчас, пишите в личку, кину ссылку на материал. Надеюсь на вашу порядочность и солидарность.
